Investigating the validity of subjective workload rating (NASA TLX) and subjective situation awareness rating (SART) for cognitively complex human–machine work

چکیده

Subjective workload and situation awareness measures, such as the NASA task load index (TLX) situational rating technique (SART), are frequently used in human–system evaluation. However, interpretation of these ratings is debated. In this study, empirical evidence for measures' theoretical assumptions was investigated by comparing operators' collected immediately after performing a scenario acquisition through video review scenario, knowledge actual system states. Eighteen licensed control room operators participated simulator running 12 relatively challenging scenarios. It found that TLX items involving introspection remained stable acquired factual knowledge, while perception external events, performance, depended on knowledge. The result shows operators’ could discriminate between mental effort, frustration, awareness. No clear SART measure found. Instead, subjective developed study distinct from related to operator showing type warrants future investigation its validity. findings help developing measurement procedures interpreting measures. Finally, reveals informing about can provide useful performance. Future research should include how inform participants adequately efficiently assessments.

NASA TLX: software for assessing subjective mental workload.

The NASA Task Load Index (TLX) is a popular technique for measuring subjective mental workload. It relies on a multidimensional construct to derive an overall workload score based on a weighted average of ratings on six subscales: mental demand, physical demand, temporal demand, performance, effort, and frustration level. A program for implementing a computerized version of the NASA TLX is desc...

Design of Automation for Telerobots and the Effect on Performance, Operator Situation Awareness, and Subjective Workload

In this article we review and assess human-centered level of automation (LOA), an alternate approach to traditional, technology-centered design of automation in dynamic-control systems. The objective of human-controlled LOA is to improve human-machine performance by taking into account both operator and technological capabilities. Automation literature has shown that traditional automation can ...

Computerized Angiographic Occlusion Rating for Ruptured Clipped Aneurysms is Superior to Subjective Occlusion Rating.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The computerized occlusion rating to estimate angiographic occlusion of embolized aneurysms is superior to the subjective occlusion rating. In this study, we compared the 2 methods in the analysis of aneurysms clipped after subarachnoid hemorrhage. MATERIALS AND METHODS The pre- and postoperative angiographic images (DSA) of 95 selected patients were analyzed and strati...

Discordant Relationship Between Evaluation of Facial Expression and Subjective Pain Rating Due to the Low Pain Magnitude

Introduction: Facial expression to pain is an important pain indicator; however, facial movements look unresponsive when perceiving mild pain. The present study investigates whether pain magnitude modulates the relationship between subjective pain rating and an observer’s evaluation of facial expression.  Methods: Twelve healthy volunteers were recruited to obtain 108 samples for pa...
